Child At Heart…
If you ask me who my favorite artists are the first 3 names that pop into my head will almost always be Blek le Rat, Banksy and Futura (with Espo, Blu, JR, Nunca and Swoon in a fierce battle for 4th). In descending order. The legend of each should precede them by lightyears as the mere mention of their names are enough to conjure up vivid recollections of some the most spectacular (and renowned) random acts of vandalism in the minds of spray can soldiers all the like. But one of these aerosol junkies has decided to truly recapture the essence of his no doubt imaginative youth. Not with paint, but with LEGO’s.
It seems Futura – (born Lenny McGurr) who got his break painting on-stage backdrops for The Clash and brought us the now iconic art-ians Pointman and Atmos – has been very, very, busy lately. Locked within his secret room, at his secret lair, on his secret island located somewhere between here, Fukuoka and Neptune, the typically private fifty-something blessed us with a glimpse of his latest feats of total awesome-ness captured through the lens of photo-doc extraordinaire (and Futura’s own son) 13th Witness.
Your little plastic Tattooine cant’ f**k with this (although I still believe my rendition of the Rebel Fleet was pretty badass)! F2k employs a myriad of different gears and links (all the pieces you and I never f**ked with) to architect a surreal and mind-blowing landscape rivaling that of Coruscant (pardon all the Star Wars references), complete with a fully functional railroad system. Other features include watermelon slices, high-heeled shoes, digital cameras, a glowing red pyramid, stun guns and my personal favorites – a full scale sniper rifle and what looks like a tricked out version of the Series 4 De-Atomizer.
Amidst all of the plights we face in the modern world – economic purgatory, terrorism, childhood obesity, Dancing With The Stars – Futura reminds us that if a grown man can play with LEGO’s, then there may still be hope for us all.
See it all thru 13th’s scope after the jump…

thank you very much kind sir.
