Since 2006 Generic Surplus has been the choice label for the prosaic masses undeterred by the complexities of life and the social hierarchy. No superfluous logos, no overpowering palette, no opulent use of material, just a simple selection of commonplace silhouettes that can appeal to just about any Tom, Dick, or Harry.
While this exercise in flagrant banality may deter those in search of attention, the stripped down, less-is-more approach is openly welcomed by the more progressive enthusiasts or those of us who just have more important shit to worry about. And believe it or not, thats what gives GS its erm… character. In focusing on what it takes to craft “just a shoe” GS introduces an everyman aesthetic that lends itself to the intrinsic values of simplicity, making it easily relatable and thus vastly more appreciated.
It takes subtle hands create such a thing, and the ones GS employs are some of the best Korea as each and every pair is meticulously hand crafted, embedding a sense of pride and appreciation into every pair. This is a label that squarely targets the modern adult, and reminds us all that we need to grow up.
