It’s always nice to have a change every once in a while. With all the quickstrikes, LE’s and collabs we get from Nike, having the drop in from 10.Deep & Adidas Consortium’s hook up is a breath of fresh air. These bad boys, aptly dubbed “Raw Dogs”, can be summed up in one word – Clean. And thank the Man upstairs for that.
For decades the Stan Smith has been one of the most beloved and recognizable silhouettes among disciples of the 3 stripes and sneakerheads overall; with a long standing legacy as sneaks synonymous with being classy & cool. Throughout the history of the shoe and especially in the past few years, the low top model has been the most familiar and heralded form we’ve seen.
Leave it to the Tenth to change all that. Since ‘95 XDC has been landing blows on us from left field, and they aren’t gonna stop now. Opting with the less appreciated mid-top version 10.Deep with a rather uncanny “subtlety” in homage of the shoe’s heritage. The “Raw Dog” nickname plays off the rawhide laces and graphical monster mouth sock-liner and insole while taking inspiration from the ongoing series of “Sticker Attack” tees. Don’t let the apparent simplicity fool you, this collab is choc-full of details. The muted Iron and Chrome suede uppers brandish some pretty epic and iconic imagery, from the classic perforated stripes on the lateral, and embossed oversized “10.Deep” imprinted on the medial span of both feet, to the trefoil on the heel tab and specially branded top eyelet, this link up was executed with the most deft of 10.Deep’s design aesthetics.
With much respect payed to the historical nature of the Stan Smith, the Tenth put together a hands down gorgeous rendition of a classic, making easily one of the best releases of the year thus far.
Don’t Sleep.
